For dispensaries

Accessible websites for dispensaries

Customers use your website to check the menu, confirm opening hours and order ahead. We find the barriers that stop blind and disabled customers from doing that, fix them in your site's code, and give you a dated report of the work.

Why this matters for dispensaries

Dispensaries are businesses open to the public, so Title III of the ADA applies to them as it does to other retailers. In 2024, blind customers sued several dispensaries in New York and New Jersey, saying they could not use the dispensaries' websites to browse and buy products (Green Market Report coverage of the cases).

The barriers named in cases like these, such as missing image descriptions, unlabeled buttons and low contrast, are usually fixable in the website's code.

We don't give legal advice. If you've received a demand letter, talk to your attorney first; we can then assess the issues it raises and fix confirmed barriers quickly.

Common barriers on dispensary websites

  • Age-verification pop-ups

If the age gate can't be used with a keyboard or screen reader, no one gets past it to the rest of the site.

  • Product menus

Product names, strain details, THC and CBD content or prices shown only in images.

  • Filters and product cards

Category filters and add-to-cart controls that aren't real buttons or links, so keyboards and screen readers can't use them.

  • Order-ahead and checkout

Forms and steps that can't be completed without a mouse.

  • Hours and locations

Opening hours and addresses shown only in images or embedded maps.

  • Low-contrast dark themes

Stylish dark designs that make text hard to read for people with low vision.

How we work

  • We test the whole journey a customer takes, from the age gate through the menu and product pages to the cart and order, with keyboards and screen readers.
  • We fix the barriers in your website's code and retest every fix.
  • You get a dated report of the scope, the work completed and anything still open.
  • Ongoing checks keep it working as your menu and promotions change.

Third-party menus and overlays

  • Many dispensaries embed menus and ordering from a third-party platform. We test them as part of the customer journey, fix everything within your control and document the rest so you can raise it with the vendor.
  • Overlay widgets don't fix the underlying code, and websites with overlays installed still receive lawsuits. We change the code itself.
